Notes About The Naga City Clinic

This is taken from a letter to a friend.  I want you to see it so you understand better my reasoning, and more about ow I work.

I have checked into the law about people opening Chiropractic clinics in this country. It’s a natural healing business and no one here is qualified to judge if a Chiropractor knows what he is doing or not! So it’s a Roman Bath. It’s a free for all. I have read several ads for Chiropractic clinics in Cebu. 3 sound like they know what they’re doing and there are photos of mature men doing what looks like honest Chiropractic work on a patient. All of the rest, charging mind you P2000 and P3000 per visit will not tell you where they were educated, and have not answered about anything other than appointment times. My cat would do a better job than they can do. These guys are charlatans.

They want to charge New York City prices for rubbing your skin with an ultrasound machine and here any person can order one from Alibaba unlicensed and just use it.

Research proves it warms your flesh ¼ inch deep. So, these patients are paying for nothing! In a country where most prices are 20% of American prices these patients are seeking help and paying for nothing! I’m really incensed.

I bought a folding cot and build onto it a massage/chiropractic flat bench. But it won’t fold well. I have built 4 stationary tables and plan to build another.  I can charge less and do more and do it at a hotel spa in Naga or near Lahug. I can train other men and women to what I’m doing. The Chiropractic education I got was very similar to Medical college, even discussing blood workups and OBGYN work. They satisfied the government body that accredits medical colleges and they presently require a 4-year degree in something like human physiology and then another 4 or even 5 years in the Chiropractic college. The students don’t need all of that. I can teach anatomy and physiology as taught from nursing text books and discuss orthopedics, bone disease, broken bones, and how all of the joints are built. Then move the student from massage to massage with adjustments of the spine. I’ll watch them as they work on patients, and continut to tutor them until they are very good at the work and then continue to pass new patients to them. Two at a time they will learn and new patients will be assigned to one or another until patients are comfortable with the one they are visiting.

All patients remain dressed just like the American Chiropractic clinics. In a 25 to 30-minute visit, the student becoming a Spine-Care Therapist can learn to be as effective as I am. No one gets hurt. Patient’s get well, spend less, there are fewer visits, but the population of Cebu + Naga is 1.1 million. Inevitably some will visit twice per year and some will visit 10 or 12 times per year.

I alone at age 76 can handle 10 patients per day at 1800 pesos per visit. Today that is $28.79.

Even in the wild country of Wyoming the Chiropractors are charging $45/visit. In Manhattan, NYC, they’re charging any price from $100 to $300 per visit.

On Long Island near where I was born and raised:
Ai Overview

Around Hempstead and the surrounding Long Island area in New York, a standard follow-up chiropractic adjustment typically costs between $65 and $175 out-of-pocket when paying cash without insurance.

Obviously I think a charge of $29 per visit for a half hour of my skills, is a reasonable price.

Truthfully my skills are better than most because I went out of my way to gain more education and I continue to improve my technique even now. I study a bit of someone’s books or articles almost everyday.

I was attending Palmer College of Chiropractic in Davenport, Iowa. Most of the men coming to school there were sons of Chiropractors or sons of Iowa and mid-west area farmers.

Most of my class mates took notes, did what was necessary to graduate, some became licensed and I think many went back to farming with their fathers. There were a very few who went out of their way to learn more, take more seminars, study at a massage school, and teach there as I did. They took the easy route and went back to the farm, supported with government agricultural loans. I see what I do compared to what others do and I know I’m worth more than I’m charging, but this is not the USA so I will charge a bit less and thank God about the rest. That includes occasional free care to the impoverished.

I’m not going to get rich this way but I can supplement my retirement pension, and finally marry Nanette and improve their lives considerably. She has two girls.

If the pension system sneezes, I still can earn a living.

I have decided that I will try to work in a hotel near the front desk. I can leave notices in apartment buildings.  Perhaps the front desk clerk will answer the phone for me.

I can build another stationary table and carry it into spa and it will stay there. I can buy new charts and a full-size plastic spine and explain to patients as I have when I was in practice from age 27 until age 50.

What I did brought a very good reputation for me. It all worked out very well and patients told friends. My efforts to advertise on radio or in the Newspapers was mostly a waste of money.

I can advertise with paper fliera quietly, and I think before long I’ll be making my home closer to the hotel where I’ll be working.
