A Brief Orientation
This series of worshipful messages come from various notes and several authors. A large portion of it is coming from the writings of Charles Haddon Spurgeon and several of his published works. In a few places, for your clarification words from the 1600s have been updated to modern English.
Charles Haddon Spurgeon (19 June 1834 – 31 January 1892) was an English Particular Baptist preacher. Mr. Spurgeon remains highly influential among Christians of various denominations, among whom he is known as the “Prince of Preachers.”
As one of the most revered Baptist preachers of his time, Charles Haddon Spurgeon’s eventful and prolific life and career offer outstanding inspiration for all Christians to this day.
Additionally, this editor finds the 1800’s writing style attractive sometimes even entrancing. It’s a pleasure to read this material, and it is presented to comfort the Judeo-Christian seeker after truths and promises from the holy scriptures.
I should immediately define “Judeo-Christian” as I understand it. In our modern times (year 2025) many have trouble reading and writing. Many Americans have never heard anything of “Jesus Christ”, Jesus the Messiah, the savior of our sickly and injured world.
A short study into the holy scriptures shows us clearly that The New Testament is nothing less than an extension of the Old Testament. Indeed, the one whom so many prophets predicted, the one to save all humanity, The Messiah Jesus appeared as predicted thousands of years earlier. Intimations about HIM appeared in every Bible chapter. The seemingly endless family tree listings were there to prove to us that the Creator of the Universe had all of this calculated to the finest details. The Stepfather Joseph and the Mother Mary had to be of two royal lines. The inheritance line of Joseph’s family tree, had an incident of a crime so bad that there had to be an intervention by God to rescue that family lineage.
Mary’s family had no recorded crimes of note. Both of them came from the family of King David. Thus Jesus and his stepfather and mother were all Jewish Royalty. The complete family tree of King David was rescued and completed through them.
The prophesies of a coming Messiah came to fruition in a monastic community in the foothills of Mount Carmel about 3 days walk from Jerusalem.
Of over 300 prophesies, Jesus was the only one who fulfilled each one. The statistical odds of such an event were something like one against hundreds of Billions. It is in the Christian mind, unquestionable. Jesus the Christ was and is the Messiah for which all Judaism had been waiting. In their day, there was resistance to this idea. Today, there still is resistance but more Jews than ever in the past, have come to recognize that when Jesus died and then rose from the dead, he rescued all Jews and all of humanity. He proved the Bible’s veracity, and proved that once and forever, HE is one of three faces of God;
- The Heavenly father;
- Jesus, The son
- The Holy Spirit
All three are separate, yet all three are one. We are fortunate to know his name and receive the good news that Jesus will return to end the misery of our present world, take over as King of all kings and Lord of all lords, and rebuild a culture and a civilization that will last forever thereafter on Earth, and later In Heaven and on a Renewed Earth more beautiful and perfect than any we mere mortals can imagine.
YOU, my dear friend and reader, have had the privilege of hearing this good news. You have the privilege of reading The Holy Scriptures, many commentaries, and articles about them. You can have the help of the Holy Spirit to have a completely healthy mind able to discern the right way to think and to live and compare against the wrong ways to behave.
An endless future of blessings and wisdom is offered to you on your road toward perfection, and along that road, we shall be matured and become eventually Like God.

Let me provide to you a little more about the great master teacher C.H. Spurgeon.
In the first volume of Spurgeon’s autobiography, we witness his rise from modest obscurity, embarking on a long road toward fame and admiration as a representative of God on Earth. A lengthy, lively and detailed biography is helped by the fact that Spurgeon was an effusive and prolific speaker. He authored many documents: he recounted incidents of his life on paper and in speeches regularly.
Through times of ill health and even depression Pastor Surgeon carried on, apparently writing every day, thinking and praying, meditating on The Righteous Ways of Almighty God, and teaching to those wise enough to sit in his church building and listen.
When the young Mr. Spurgeon was aged fifteen, a violent snowstorm forced him from his route into a Methodist church where he felt the Lord beckon him to service. After this, he undertook parochial study with great fervor, and quickly became a respected teacher in his local Sunday School, gaining the nickname ‘the boy-preacher of the Fens’.
- H. Spurgeon’s rare gift for words and ability to speak movingly became obvious at the outset. Whilst still in his teenage years he commenced to write Gospel tracts, honing his keynote style and manner with audiences.
Early on, he applied his talents toward encouraging religious thought and contemplation of the divine for those wise enough to listen.
The calling became obvious to Christians of various denominations. This young man was earmarked for a bright future dedicated to the church.
None of us are born at random. We each come to life for God’s good purposes at the right time for Him to have us here. We all have a purpose and an assignment.
Spurgeon lived in England at a difficult time; later in these messages, we hear his account of the cholera epidemic which ravaged London in the 1850s. Witnessing the effect of this terrible disease was sobering for the young preacher/
Amid this grim reality, as also in our time, many seek to have answers, reminders and by this to be comforted.
You dear friend are not a random life born for nothing. You are here to learn, to be comforted and to comfort others and of course to help the others you know come to or return to The Christ Jesus.
The comfort of God’s assurance was then and today is in high demand. It fell to Pastor Spurgeon to offer such comfort to ever-larger crowds.
Today the crowds are vast. They sometimes appear in churches. They are listening on social media and various formats of Christian telecommunications broadcasts. There are a few listeners in nearly every region and every country around the world.
I, Dr. Stephen Newdell, am not a formally trained pastor. I do not run a church and do not request donations. I only request your visits to read more, learn more, and develop into a more learned person.
Some of my writing and editing is in theology, though most of that is gleaned from other past great and present-day preachers and teachers. I like to jest that I cobble it together from various sources.
I made my living in the health-care field of endeavor and for those interested in improving their health naturally, there are many materials available by which I can be helpful.
