What you have seen here is an unpaid, unauthorized menu example from a restaurant in West Islip. It reads as it does because that is the Yelp format. I’ve made improvements.
That website link took us to Yelp. The owner does not have his own website so he passed the bare basic information to Yelp. Yelp is just a listing similar to what was in the white pages of the old printed phone books. It’s very much “bare bones” and only an outline of what could be done to tell more, show more, and draw in more customers. Truly, if potential customers do not know his name, they might never see his listing. (It’s not an ad. It’s a listing.)
I should know. I’m age 74 and have been involved with the sales and advertising business, working, reading, studying, attending seminars, more working and testing since age 15. I sold and wrote ads, including photos for Newspapers, Magazines and for a big name INDEPENDENTLY PUBLISHED Western States Telephone Yellow Pages Directory.
That means when you work with me you get the value of 58 years of teaching potential customers what we can do for them and asking them to buy or showing them how easy it is to decide what is best for them.
You probably do need a good salesman or sales team but that’s another extension of your business and you might think you’re not sure about where to begin. Advertising is “sales in print” and a well made website sells in “digital print.”
These days, your website or web page on my site IS your sign. If your web page is dreary, your customer responses will be dreary too! I was shocked one morning in June to see that a very famous Women’s clothing shop had a change ongoing with their home page. It was so dreary I was mortified. I expect they’re working on it. I contacted it during their night hours in New York. I’m 12 hours difference in The Philippines. I hoped by morning it looks much better! I saw it and wondered if they were going out of business. Websites cannot sell with photos alone, but they certainly should look good, and big bright photos are a strong attraction. Look at this one.
This is from the clothing store “FAME.” They specialize in modest clothing. The photography is professional and excellent. The pictures are bold, bright and really capture attention! You can’t produce this with a phone! Call a pro photographer, view his work, and then hire one you like very well.
When you see a website that says nearly nothing you can be sure it was created by a young person who had Computer Science courses in college. He/she has never sold anything. S/he also has young good eyes and the thought of making pages with print big and black enough to see for people over age 40 never crossed his/her mind.
These people want to hide behind their computer monitor. They wouldn’t dream of selling anything ever. In surveys they often admit they are introverts and prefer to avoid people.
With a social I.Q. of nearly zero, you should not be paying them to build a website. Pay them to take ad copy written by an experienced and successful writer and put the words next to photos that fit. If these people want to charge you nearly one-hundred dollars per hour, I have a better solution here near Cebu City. I can do a lot of the work. My technician is a decent, completely trustworthy man, and the right man to hire to help you do something technical that I don’t know how to do.
I can work with him to build the website you need, if you want to go into a fully made website. They’re not cheap but in some businesses you may want it.
As for this Shopper’s Magazine if you have a need for 2 or 3 pages, we can complete those for you at a lower price and get a good job done.
Words sell, pictures draw the eye. Don’t be deceived. You don’t need to make a movie. You need words and pictures to draw customers in and get them talking to you over the phone or walking in to do business.

Bring In More Customer Traffic With Weekly and Weekend Specials Like This, Presently Available at a LOW Introductory Price!
I’m getting and learning to use more modern page editor software. I’ll be able to do more and create more modern looking pages.
Right now, in the Weekly and Weekend Specials pages start with a box and a short blurb for just $35/week ($140/month.) That’s a low price and a great way to test numbers of customers and compare your various accounting figures.
Don’t buy more printed calendars and hope they will get you more customers. They probably won’t, and printed material never gives you a viewer count as these pages do. (There is a viewer counter in the lower left corner of every page.)

Scientific Advertising requires that you keep a survey of numbers.
- How many more customers came in?
- What does it cost you per customer to get them through the door?
- What were your gross sales and your net profit figures?
- If there was a social crisis, that crises probably did reduce your customer traffic.
If there was a crisis during that month it made the test worthless and you’ll have to try again. We have history to look at and we can prove that businesses that advertised through wars and epidemics and depressions stayed in business. The customers that once went to other businesses that are now closed are coming to the ones that remained in business.
Many such businesses experienced remarkable growth. Among them, Honda Car and motorcycle company. Mr. Honda simply would not give up!
We know that advertising works. Anyone who buys big ads for months or years has proven they worked for him and continue to bring him more profit. If not, he would not be paying for more of those ads.
You will be able to test and try new ideas for low prices.
Have you tried to set up a free business page at Facebook? It’s a frustrating puzzle and they know it. Worse, if you want to pay for their boost advertising it is so complicated you would be forced to hire their “Meta” digital ad agency to help you. So now Facebook will reach the world. How many customers do you expect from Indiana, or India or Uganda? Very few I’d guess.
Theoretically you can avoid all of that and focus down to the population of New York City and Long Island but in reality you need to hire help to do it. The digital ad agency people have been trained by Facebook to know what to do. The same can be said for Google. Why are they demanding that you pay big money to reach people across the world who will never visit you?
I am working out ways to do our own “reaching” with no need for Facebook or Google.
You don’t have energy and time to teach yourself to be a “digital marketer!” You have a business to run and people at home who want your attention.

Please be mindful, if we’re changing photos and doing more I’ll have to apply more time and labor, and perhaps hire a technician to help. I must charge for bigger jobs like that.
The page you are reading is done with the “Classic Editor” and I made this page. I’m learning to use newer software that allows me to do more modern looking work. Still, I admit, I like big photos, and bigger print easily seen by older eyes.
This is “a web page.” It’s not intended to be a movie! All of these “techy’s” think beauty sells, and they’ve never sold anything in their lives.
They have created an industry producing various patterns (called “Blocks”) to make a page have a particular appearance. It’s a nice idea.
At this writng there are some 15,000 blocks! What would anyone do with such a selection? Yes, it’s nice to make a page look good but don’t go obsessive over it.
Remember our golden rule. “Pictures draw the eye. WORDS SELL.” That’s why I offer for you to send me what you want to say and with your permission, I’ll improve the writing and include words and phrases proven to sell. If it’s a small job I’ll do it for FREE.
I know several big name Freelance Advertising Copywriters who might need an ambulance ride after reading this. They don’t do anything for free. But I will, because small business operators need help getting started. Without such help many get chased out of business before they can get started!
For me or a technician to jump in and make an emergency change to your site is, in my opinion, being part of a community of friends who help one another.
